Want to lose weight and feel like your sugar intake may be holding you back? Check out my 3 top tips to start reducing your sugar intake today.
I am a self-confessed sugar addict who loves to eat everything from sweets to cakes, however, I recently noticed my unhealthy addiction to sugar was becoming too dangerous. At only 25 I need to banish the habit now before it leads to complications in the future.

Swap Out Fizzy Drinks
Ask yourself how much fizzy pop do you drink in a week? To kickstart cutting sugar out of my diet the first thing I cut down on was fizzy pop. I stopped buying it in my weekly shop and instead have squash. I usually opt for low sugar and double strength. Increase your water intake and add in fresh fruit for that sweeter taste. Cutting out fizzy pop can also help you at mealtimes. Drinking fizzy pop at meals always made me feel full before I had even tucked into my food. This resulted in me skipping a healthy meal and then binge eating on sugary treats a couple of hours later.

Say No To The Sweet Stuff
My boyfriend and I have a rule that we will not buy sweet stuff in our weekly shop. If it’s not in the house then you can not eat it. I usually binge sugar on an evening when your energy is at its lowest, not having it in the house is making me reach for healthier snacks such as fruit or yogurt. Before I would pick up biscuits or an item from the bakery section at the supermarket, now we are switching to online shopping I can say goodbye to those bad impulse purchases.
Do not completely say goodbye to sweet treats as you are then likely to plateau and binge eat. treat yourself once a week or on special occasions. I won’t be turning down a dessert at a friends birthday meal.
A couple of my friends follow Slimming World and I am a big fan of the plan and how they use syns. If you are serious about losing weight following Slimming World or the syn rule may help you. I personally love following the tags on Instagram such as #OnPlan #SlimmingWorldUK

Hidden Sugar
It is no secret now that sugar is hidden in everything, especially in tinned and jarred products. Cut down your use of tinned and sauces from a jar by making your own at home. Over the long run, it may also save you money as spices can last a long time. I have stopped using a jar of sauce to make curries. I now opt for using fresh ingredients and spices. There’s no hidden sugar creeping into my meals. Have a look on Pinterest for amazing recipes.
I really hope you can use these tips to help cut down your sugar intake. I am still on this journey myself and will be updating this blog as I go.
